From the Wirral to the Finish Line: Dave Takes on the Manchester Marathon!
Our very own Dave from the Pali Search Team is lacing up his trainers for one of Europe’s biggest marathons!
Dave, alongside his girlfriend Sophie, will be running the Manchester Marathon on 27th April to raise money for STAR (Stronger Together Animal Rescue). The marathon is a whopping 26.2 miles, starting at the Emirates Old Trafford Stadium and finishing on Oxford Road.
Why STAR?
STAR is a fantastic charity that helps rescue dogs from Cyprus find loving forever homes in the UK. They don’t just rescue dogs – they give them a second chance at life. STAR facilitate the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of abandoned, stray and unwanted dogs and cats. With the help of dedicated volunteers and donors, they transport dogs from tough situations in Cyprus to safe, happy homes in the UK. Every penny raised helps towards making that happen.
Dave’s sister adopted her dog, Coco, from STAR and soon after became a volunteer for their amazing charity.
Putting in the Miles!
Dave and Sophie have been training hard for 15 weeks, clocking up serious mileage including a 10k at Tatton Park and a half-marathon at Heaton Park. Their longest training run so far is 32km – which means the big day will take them 10km beyond anything they’ve done before.
The marathon begins at the Emirates Old Trafford Stadium and there will be a record-breaking high of 36,000 runners participating this year.
They’re aiming to finish in under 4 hours and 30 minutes, and we have no doubt they will smash their goal!

This marathon also marks a special milestone for Dave – his 30th birthday is the very next day! And how will they be celebrating after conquering 26 miles? By hopping straight on a flight to the Algarve for a well-earned break (we’re not jealous at all… honest).
